About the Book

"Handbook of Building Control in Hong Kong" provides expertise knowledge even for those who are not professionals to understand how the design of buildings is legally regulated. There are chapters covering the historical background, the control on development, design and site as well as the statutory administrative procedures. It is the wish of the authors to reveal the legislative control behind buildings for everyone so the restraints of building design will be understood and eventually improved to be adaptable to modern living and the future generations.

 

 

About the Speaker

Wong Wah Sang (editor), an experienced architect, has been teaching in the HKU Department of Architecture since 1990. He is an Honorary Professor in the Faculty of Design and Environment at the Technology and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong. He has served as Vice President, hon. Secretary, Board Chairman and various committee chairman in the Hong Kong Institute of Architects. He has also served on various Government committees related to buildings.

Yeung Tse Ngok, Mona (co-editor) is a Registered Architect and Authorized Person in Hong Kong. She is the Senior Programme Director of Architectural Studies at HKU SPACE, as well as the Adjunct Associate Professor at HKU and Chinese University of Hong Kong Architecture curriculum.

Chan Hon Lam, Eddie is a Registered Architect and had been involved design works in various scale and types, both in HK and UK. As a passionate young architect, he is fond of interesting ideas and eager to participate in local and overseas community engagement projects.

Chan Wing Yan, Alice is a Registered Architect in Hong Kong. She has her own private practice, Architectural Project Unit Limited, since 2012.

Chau Cheuk Leung, Brian is a full member of the Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP) and a town planner of the Hong Kong SAR Government. Brian was the past Chairperson of HKIP’s Young Planners Group and a former Council Member of the HKIP.

Ho Wing Yin, Wan is a Registered Architect who has 10 years of project administration and management experience in residential, cultural and commercial projects in Hong Kong. She also worked as a healthcare design consultancy for both local and overseas projects which enables her to develop a collaborative vision and perspective in architectural aspects.

Ho Wing Suen, Christine is a Registered Architect and an Authorized Person. She has been practising as an architect for more than 10 years after graduated with a bachelor's and a master's degree from the HKU in 2006. She is now a Project Manager of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology focusing in various types of capital projects.

Kee Yee Chun, Tris is a Registered Architect and Authorized Person in Hong Kong.  A graduate of the School of Architecture, University of Waterloo, Canada, Tris worked in Rome, Amsterdam, London and Vancouver before returning to Hong Kong to work as Associate Professor at the Technology and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong.

Kwan Kwok Lok, Joseph, MH is an architect and accessibility consultant. He is the director of International Union of Architects (UIA) Work Programme Architecture (WP) for All, Member of Rehabilitation Advisory Committee (RAC), HKSAR, and Chair of RAC Sub-Committee on Access, HKSAR.

Kwok Kin Hang is a content architectural professional with 15+ years experiences in different cities in Asia. He has worked in positions in construction sites, consultancy and property developer. Recent years, his works focuses on exploring development potential of different lands in Hong Kong and is well versed with up to date government policies and the related laws and regulations.

Un Yiu Bong, Hubert, a registered architect, operates his own practice for more than 20 years with experience in London, New York, Boston, Vancouver and Asia. He is also an assistant professor at Chu Hai College of Higher Education teaching architectural design.

Wai Chui Chi, Rosman is a Registered Architect. She served on the Architects Registration Board (2014-2018) and was the vice-president of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (2015-16). She also teaches at HKU Faculty of Architecture.
