Subject Policy Statement - BUSINESS

 

A. Purpose and Program Description

The Libraries seek to support research and teaching in the diversified and globalized business field. To serve the needs of faculty members to produce world-class cutting-edge research, we work closely with faculty members in developing outstanding information resources and strive to extend our leading position in China , the Asia-Pacific Region and the world. As Business is a fast growing field and is responsive to global trends and modern technologies, we focus not only on Asian/Chinese business organization and management practice; accounting and finance; corporate strategy and business environment; but also international business environment, and management information systems. The collection supports the needs of undergraduate students, graduate students, PhD and post-doctorate students, faculty and researchers.

Area of established specialization are economic policy and business strategy studies on Hong Kong and its role in China, the Asia Pacific region and worldwide (including competitiveness, macroeconomic fluctuations and growth, human resources, risk management and financial markets, China financial research on securities markets, banking and financial policies); international competitiveness, industrial organization, international trade, international marketing and electronic commerce.

Overall, the Libraries' existing collection and acquisitions commitment, based upon available resources, and its collection goal for Business are at the research level.

 

C. Specific Delimitations

  1. Formats collected: We collect monographs, annuals, reference tools and scholarly series extensively; periodicals, CD-ROMs and other electronic tools, DVDs, VCDs and videocassettes selectively; textbooks and dissertations (other than HKU dissertations).
  2. Imprint Dates Collected: We collect current publications extensively, and earlier materials, selectively.
  3. Chronological Focus: All
  4. Languages Collected: We collect English language materials extensively and Chinese-language materials selectively. All others are collected very selectively.
  5. Place of Publication: We collect UK and North American materials extensively and other materials, selectively.
