What is Text a Librarian?
Text a Librarian is part of Ask A Librarian service that enables HKUL users to
send questions to and receive answers from Reference Librarians by using the
text message feature of their mobile phones.
Who can use the service?
The service is only offered to registered HKU / HKU SPACE staff, undergraduate
students, postgraduate students, alumni and Circle of Friends members.
When are the Operating Hours?
We will respond to enquires from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm from
Monday to Friday. The turnaround time for an actual response
to an enquiry will be up to 4 hours. SMS enquiries received
after 5 pm on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays and on public
holidays will be attended to the next working day. If you
do not receive a reply within 4 hours during weekdays, please
call us at 2859-2203 or email us at hkulref@hkucc.hku.hk.
Please be aware that some SMS messages can be delayed
or even fail due to problems with the connections between
different telephone carriers.
When
should you use the service?
The service is good for asking quick, simple questions that can be answered in
short responses (160 characters or less). Questions that require lengthier responses
or reference help should be directed to the Ask A Librarian e-mail reference
service. Questions that require immediate answers should be directed to our telephone
reference service at 2859-2203.

To use the service, you will need a mobile phone that is capable of sending and
receiving text-messages.
