The HKUL has recently joined OCLC, one of the world's largest library consortia and bibliographic utilities. From now on, we will be contributing our new MARC (MAchine-Readable Cataloging) records and adding the Libraries' holdings to WorldCat database as well as making use of their records for the purpose of resource sharing and cooperation.

The Cataloguing Department has been busy preparing for this move. Chief Cataloguer Heung Wing-ngao and cataloguer Ruth Wong as well as staff from other departments visited the libraries of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, both of which are OCLC members, to study their cataloguing workflow. The Department is now designing a new workflow to implement cataloguing on OCLC.
