Reserve / Course Packs

There are several ways for providing course materials to students in our Libraries. They are:

1. Reserve materials

The University Libraries provides reserve service to support teaching activities at the University. The Reserve Collection houses core recommended materials by teaching staff for course reading purposes. Reserve collection consists of library-owned and/or personal copies of books, articles, handouts, past examination papers, lecture notes, course assignments and heavily used materials. Library-owned materials are placed on open shelves for browsing, appropriate photocopying and borrowing activities. Personal materials and loose-leaf items are kept behind the AV counter and can only be checked out by designated students.

2. Course packs

i. Print Course Pack

Commencing from 2005, at the request of the University, AV Collection accepted the responsibility of administering the two-year licence agreement with the Hong Kong Reprograhic Rights Licensing Society Ltd. (HKRRLS), which includes course pack production for all faculties, departments and centres; database maintenance of all transactions; report writing to and copyright settlement with the HKRRLS. ii. Online Course Pack

As the Libraries have already licensed access to many electronic journals and e-books, teaching staff who choose to select reading assignments for their students from the libraries' electronic resources as course reserve materials may opt for the Online Course Pack to save students to pay licensing, photocopying and processing fees to HKRRLS.
